Jet crashes in Florida killing all 9 on board

A Learjet 60 jet heading for the Bahamas crashed in Florida Sunday afternoon, killing all nine people on board, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.

Duffy called the crash a “horrific tragedy,” in a social media post adding, “Please join me in praying for the families and loved ones of those we lost.”

It was not immediately clear if there were additional injuries on the ground.

The flight, which departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas headed for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, crashed near Cresthaven, Florida, around 12:50 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The agency and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said an aircraft incident was under investigation in the area of Military Trail, and all northbound and southbound lanes are closed until further notice.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
