A Reddit post by a Maharashtra-based employee has drawn attention to the difficult choices that can come with living far from the office, especially when moving closer is not financially practical.The employee described a routine that leaves little room between work, travel, and home. Badlapur to Goregaon every day
The employee said their day starts at 5 am, with the journey beginning around 6:30 am.They board a local train from Badlapur station at 7:15 am, travel towards Dadar, and then change to the Western line. After reaching Goregaon, the final stretch involves waiting in a shared rickshaw queue.The employee wrote, “I travel for 6 hours everyday from Badlapur to Goregaon.”Explaining the morning journey, they said, “I am tired of this travelling . I wake up at 5 am, leave home around 6:30 am, board the local train from Badlapur station at 7:15 am, reach Dadar board train for the Western line, reach Goregaon station and from there stand in share rickshaw queue for 30 mins everyday and then finally reach office. I reach office around 10.”
A late return after work
The employee said their office day ends around 7 pm. They then begin the journey back to Badlapur and reach home at around 11 pm.“I leave office around 7 pm and reach home in Badlapur by 11 pm. This is my daily routine for everyday only on Sundays I have holiday.”Describing what the schedule feels like, the employee added, “Imagine spending 6 hours in travelling everyday. I come to home only to sleep at night.”
Why a PG is not an easy option
The employee said they had looked for accommodation closer to the workplace but found it difficult to find an option that worked within their budget.“I tried looking for pg nearby office but most of them expensive and cheaper ones are very unhygienic. I can’t afford to rent a place there as my salary is only rs 35,000 monthly.”
Reddit users share their suggestions
The post led to several responses, with users offering different ways to reduce the daily travel.One person suggested using a hostel or dorm on selected days rather than taking a permanent place near the office.“Just a random idea, look for hostels, dorms, cheaper ones like 500 700 per night, you can book them twice a week, 10 times in a month, out of 25 days, you can travel to Badlapur maybe like 14 days, more balanced daily routine with less rent.”Another user wrote, “Brother, this is not travel. This is just TORTURE.”A Reddit user who said they had travelled on the same route 15 years ago suggested looking for cheaper accommodation on the Western line.“I did this route 15 years ago. Then I moved to Dombivli and shortly changed jobs. If possible, find the cheapest PGs you can find on the Western line.”Others suggested looking for another job. One commenter wrote, “Why don’t you look for a switch? This is a horrible way to live life.
