The Trump administration’s new chatbot aimed at helping Americans navigate official government websites is powered by artificial intelligence from Google‘s Gemini and Elon Musk‘s Grok, U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia said Tuesday.
“We have great partners behind the scenes,” Gebbia told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” shortly before the site, America.gov, went live around 10 a.m. ET.
Google and Grok developer xAI, which was acquired by SpaceX and renamed SpaceXAI, did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.
“Every day, 40 million people interact with a government website trying to get something done. And I think we could all agree that we wish it was better,” Gebbia told CNBC.
The site is being unveiled at a day-long event in Washington’s Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other administration officials and industry leaders.
“It’s not just simply a website. It’s a restoration of America’s founding promise, and it’s a reinvention of your government for the 21st century and beyond,” Trump said in a speech at the event.
The gathering will also include a range of panel discussions on AI and other topics, including, energy, health, space and agriculture, the White House told CNBC.
